Creative Fun at Sip and Salvage

Published by Pete Dulin on

St. Louis native Cindy Diebold Bardon moved to Kansas City several years ago. While in St. Louis, Cindy and a friend operated Maurita’s Attic, a repurposed furniture store where they sold refurbished items spruced up with paint. Next, Cindy began working with the team at Good JuJu in Kansas City’s West Bottoms under the moniker The Painted Brush. Cindy applied her creative talent and entrepreneurial plans October of 2018 to open Sip and Salvage. Guests may take three-hour classes at the personalized sip and paint creative studio in North Kansas City.

Starting a local arts-based business was not only second nature, but helped Cindy settle in the Kansas City area. Cindy said, “I needed something to make KC feel like home while becoming active within the community.”

She chose North Kansas City as the location for her shop because of its “centralized location with new shops and activities popping up.”

Guests may bring alcohol and other beverages to the workshop. Cindy provides painting supplies. She teaches groups how to create painted signs and decor using stencils and other tools. She said, “The classes are great for adult sip and paint sessions, birthdays, bachelorette parties, showers, and team-building events. We offer one-hour kids classes also.”

Folks without a creative bone in their body and natural artists alike are welcome. The classes require no skill. “With these stencils, you will love the outcome!” Cindy said.

According to Cindy, common reactions after participants took Sip and Salvage classes include “This is so easy and so much fun!!” and “Great place to go with a group of friends!”

Operating Sip and Salvage is rewarding for Cindy. She enjoys meeting new people and “seeing the reactions as the ‘reveal peel’ occurs.” Cindy elaborated, “Two people can start with the same stencil and with their own personal choices of color and can create two very different signs.”
