RiverNorth District is a business league consisting of 30 locally-owned bars, restaurants and shops in the City of NKC.
Our corridor is the Armour main street area, and Swift down to the industrial side of town and Big Rip. We also cover locally-owned food, drink and retail owners in the 18th & Clay block.
We provide a community forum for member businesses to communicate among, along with a promotional website to market the district as a whole. For example, our showcase pages help visitors find what they need and more info on where the locals dine and drink. Lastly, our site offers a full calendar of events for everything going on in our neck of the woods.
North Kansas City is growing as both a hub for craft brewing and for artists and craftsmen needing workshop space. So we formed to be the welcome wagon and the connective links to important City resources. Most importantly, we believe our connections to local government, Business Council, and other ways of plugging into the community help businesses become better neighbors!
Our town has ridden a decade-long wave of new interest alongside our next door neighbors in Kansas City. So several business owners banded together to pitch a business league to promote local shops along the historic commercial corridor.
The non-profit RiverNorth organization defines the boundaries of our district, where it is in relation to other corners of North Kansas City, and the small business status we designate. Moreover, it pools member business resources to pay for a combined website and marketing on social media to reach visitors in the region who are looking for day trips and evenings out within a short drive from much of the metro.
The RiverNorth district is the northern hub of a 4-mile craft beer corridor that crosses the Missouri River into KCMO’s River Market neighborhood and ends in the South Crossroads brewing hub. Thirteen total breweries call this corridor home, and five can be found right here on the north side. In addition to that, our district is home to two award-winning Kansas City BBQ joints, long-standing neighborhood bars, a coffee shop and concert venue, a bakery, a yoga studio, a kombucha brewery, a brewing supply store, a record store, a stylish home goods and apparel store, a late-night burger stand, a bicycle bar and repair shop, a sports museum restaurant, a used bookstore, a rock climbing gym, a smoothie shop, a cocktail bar with the area’s deepest whiskey selection, the first ever location for yard game mecca Chicken N Pickle, and the area’s highest-rated movie theater: the independently-owned Screenland Armour!
The common thread pulling all of this together over the years was independent entrepreneurs taking chances on North Kansas City. Similarly, thousands of weekly visitors continue to come out to support them and their district neighbors!
